Ugh! Another obstacle race! I didn’t get to do all the obstacles laid-out during the Immuvit Challenge Trail Run last Sunday as i was just after running the La Mesa Nature Reserve trails which i experienced for the first time. I’m not really fun of tackling obstacles during a race as i’m just in it for the running part.
I admit that i’m not that young and energetic as i used to. I still do gym work-outs like circuit training, lifting light weights, upper and lower body strength building, etc. but that is only to complement my running. For me, i just want to hear the gush of the rushing river, scaling hills or mountain passes that are part of the course, see the long road ahead to race with other runners, enjoy pacing with others and be content that i do what i enjoy best and that is to run.
Well, others may like a different challenge so races with obstacles may be your thing. To each his own. Enter the Men’s Health Urbanathlon.
The Men’s Health Urbanathlon and Festival, now on its 6th year is a city-based, multi-disciplinary endurance race of 5k, 10k and 21k that integrates various urban obstacles as part of the course and will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012, 5:00 A.M. at SM Mall of Asia.
Post race, the excitement continues at the Men’s Health URBANATHLON and Festival, with DJ sets, food and drink, and tons of stuff from sponsors to demo, sample, and take home.
With tougher obstacles, an intensified course and more racers, this year’s race is expected to be the most demanding Urbanathlon to date. I’m going to do the 21k race and maybe, just maybe tackle the doable ones.

The Philippine edition of Men’s Health, the largest men’s lifestyle magazine, will hold its annual Men’s Health Urbanathlon & Festival event on Sunday, October 14 at SM Mall of Asia from 5:00am – 10:00am. Celebrity host, Rovilson Fernandez, will be at the helm of the event.
On its 6th staging, the country’s original obstacle laden race is expected to be significantly tougher, bigger and more intense this time around. Designed to test the urbanathlete’s fitness level, the event now has a 21km distance aside from the usual 5km and 10km categories.
The city-based, multi-disciplinary race requires more than just perfect running form as this also tests the racer’s endurance to withstand a mix of 7 uniquely engineered obstacles that all increases in difficulty in each race categories. Such obstacles involve Monkey & Parallel bars, Steeple chase & modified tires, Container vans, Wall climb, Vertical climb, Scaffolding maze and Military hurdles.
Registration for the Men’s Health Urbanathlon begins on August 22 and ends October 8, 2012. The registration fee for the race is P750.00 for the 5km and 10km distances and P850.00 for the 21km distance.
