Safeguard-2XU: The Last Leg at Nuvali

That last 4km detour of connect-the-dots-like route before the finish line sure made my head spin, like a pin-ball that kept bouncing back and forth. I felt i was entering into a maze, trying to keep my wits and wondering when i could finally see the exit and the final straight to the finish. Even though i knew it was just a matter of time, i felt i was moving in perpetual motion towards a mirage in the vision of a finish line arc. And it finally came!

Still, Runrio’s last leg of the Safeguard-2XU Sole running was every bit a success, taking me for the first time to an all-road route at Nuvali, ditching the trails which i was accustomed to running during past races here. The route was pristine, mostly cemented while navigating the rolling terrain of long uphills and downhills with lights emanating from large floodlights that the organizers had set-up at dimly-lit roads.

Nuvali seems to be a perfect race venue to stage races except that it’s quite inaccessible specially to those who live in the metro. Nevertheless, i was one of those who truly enjoyed the ambiance and the cool weather–yes, it was cold and in Nuvali at that, was great for racing!

The mood was upbeat, hydration stations were abundant with Gatorade and ice-cold water given on every stations, saw some portalets along the course and a shout out from Coach Rio who despite looking drawn and haggard was able to acknowledge me and other runners at a dead-end corner.  The distance was on the mark too (21.1k per my Suunto Gambit2).

Everyone left with a wide smile on their faces and i’m sure many runners will come back for these series of races if they stage it again next year!

A big thumbs-up to Runrio and staff!

The BGC Passion Fest And The Sole Racing Swags

It was quite a busy day for me at the Bonifacio Global City from early morning till mid-afternoon today. Had to meet our foreign principal at the F1 Hotel the whole morning and the talks ranged from the serious to the mundane and utterly ridiculous that i had to excuse myself just before they had their lunch break.

I had to make an excuse as i was rushing to the BGC Passionfest Launch at the nearby Lorenzo’s Way Restaurant at High Street. Got to dine many times at this nice resto and as always, you won’t miss the great food they serve there, specially the crispy tilapia, garlic chicken, pandan rice, vegetable rolls and their delicious and tender beef calderetta! Ohh yum!

One of their specialties, Beef calderetta

The BGC Passionfest is a three-day event celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of one of the country’s national heroes, Andres Bonifacio. It bills as a modern fiesta filled with music, arts, food, culture and dance to be held from November 29 and 30 till December 1, 2013 at the Bonifacio High Street.

Co-inciding this event is the Takbonifacio 5k Run at BGC to be held on the afternoon of November 30 (same date with the Cavinti Trail marathon). More of the Passionfest in my next blog.

Capping my day at the BGC was an unscheduled stop at Riovana where me and my fellow bloggers were able to claim our Safeguard-2XU Sole Racing Kit and the freebies that came with it. Here’s what came with my race packet:

Sole racing swags

To those expecting of receiving a running shoe as part of the goodies promised by Runrio for those who registered for this leg, here is the explanation given by Coach Rio himself regarding the matter:

-Runrio black microfiber towel
-2XU calf guard (color of your choice*)
-2XU visor (color of your choice*)

*stocks per color are limited, so the earlier you claim your race kit, the more chances you have of getting your preferred color

We will also give a 40% refund from the registration fee you paid. Scheme is as follows:

Early registrants (Feb 4-17) – P1,000 refund
Regular registrants (Feb 18-Aug 3) – P1,400 refund

Safeguard-2XU Sole Racing: Claiming of Packets

After having breakfast of Sausage-Egg McMuffin, hashbrown and large fries with Pimco’s Manny Santos and runner friend Iris Torculas at a McDonald branch in Boni Avenue this morning, i proceeded immediately to Bonifacio High Street to claim my race packet for this Sunday’s  Safeguard-2XU Sole Racing Half-Marathon.

Didn’t want to go with the droves that would arrive in the evening after work, so i found myself  arriving at the venue with less than a dozen people at 11am. The booth bearing the first letter of my surname was empty so i was all alone with the receptionist checking all swags in my goodie bag and was through in about 90 seconds! That was a breeze!

Claim booths

All the great swags that came with the registration for this First leg half-marathon were all there except for the slippers which they promised to deliver to our homes as soon as they arrive this week. Bars of safeguard soap and a bottle of body wash also came with the loot bag which was more than they had promised!

This will be the first of a 3-leg Safeguard-2XU Half-Marathon racing series and i’ll be toeing the line without any expectation on my part, making this a “chill-chill” race (a term i learned from Carol, a newbie but fast running friend) which means an easy-go-lucky run, just to beat the 3-hour cut-off time.

The Jazzrunner blog thanks Coach Rio for the complementary race kit!

See you on Sunday!
