11.20.2011 A Run For The Pasig River

In 2009, 23,000 runners took the first step. In 2010, 116,086 runners took a stand and made this race into the Guinness World Record as the largest foot race in the world. If you were part of the world record last year, congratulations!

This year 2011, ABS-CBN Foundation’s Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) advocacy is set to break its own Guinness World Record through this year’s biggest eco-foot race “11.20.2011 Run For The Pasig River.” A total of  150,000 runners is targeted to make that big difference in continuing the rehabilitation of the Pasig River and its tributaries.

There will be three categories for this race, the 3K, 5K and 10k distances. The starting lines are as follows:

  • 3K start: along Roxas Blvd., infront of CCP
  • 5K start: along Roxas Blvd., at the corner of Pedro Gil
  • 10K start: along Seaside Blvd., behind MOA

The race will start simultaneously at 4:45am and will be divided by wave or clusters. All runners will end up at the same finish line—the Globe area at SM Mall of Asia (MOA). A ceremonial 21-kilometer run (not open to the public) will be participated by KBPIP sponsors and partners. It will start at The Fort and also end up at MOA.

The Race Directors for this event are Thumbie Remigio (3k, 5k), Nan Enriquez and Glen Romualdo (10k) and Rio Dela Cruz for the special 21k event. Over-all Race Director is Eric Imperio of X-Tribe. These guys also directed this same event last year.

For this year, all runners will be using an RFID tag attached to their race bibs to automatically count the runners as they step on the start and finish lines. With this RFID, all runners will be accounted for and will be the basis for establishing if the Guiness World Record has been broken or not.

The proceeds of last year’s run were used to rehabilitate Estero de Paco where they established phytoremediation and aeration technologies to restore the water quality and provide aesthetic community gardens around the estero. Funds collected this year will be used for the initial rehabilitation of Estero San Miguel, one of the five networks of esteros behind Malacanang Palace.

On line registration for the 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River will be open on September 10, 2011.

Registration Fees (tentative) will be P300.00 for the 3K and 5K runs while the 10k race will be at P450.00. A student rate of  P150.00 for 3k and 5k will be offered upon presentation of student I.D. Since this is an advocacy Fun Run, no Awards and Prizes for top finishers will be given to any categories.

For more information on registration, please visit www.runforthepasigriver.com or like their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/runforthepasigriver and follow them on Twitter at www.twitter.com/run4pasigriver.

The launch was led by no less than Ms. Gina Lopez, AFI managing director and concurrent Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission chairperson.  She’s hoping that we could break the world record anew this year and do it every year until Pasig River is clean.

Below are some of the pics i took at the launching. See you on 11.20.2011!
