500 Smile Run: Different Miles For Different Smiles

500 Miles Run: November 6, 2011 Race

Run held last Sunday, September 18

Different Race, different organizers but both for the same cause! The Miles For Smiles Run, organized by the Noordhoff  Craniofacial Foundation Philippines held a very successful race last Sunday with proceeds going for the treatment of cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial abnormalities of Pinoy children.

This time, the Operation Smile Philippines is organizing their own race, the 500 Smile Run (with main sponsors, Smart and PLDT) on November 6, 2011 to provide reconstructive surgery to at least 1,500 Filipino children and young adults in 10 days through 8 simultaneous surgical missions in various parts of the country, namely, Bacolod, Cavite, Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, South Cotabato, Makati, Naga and Pampanga.

Like the Miles For Smiles Run, the 500 Smiles Run hopes to create a positive difference in the lives of many Filipinos with cleft lip or palate, including other facial deformities.   It means making possible quality medical treatment and care reach the less-priveleged ones, including advocating for them in the long-run, their social acceptance and respect due to them from their families and the public as well.

I was able to attend the 500 Smiles Run launch last night and was able to hear the Doctors and medical volunteers relay their experiences who desire to give their knowledge, expertise, and sacrifice–all for free to their countrymen, especially the children.

If you weren’t able to support and run last Sunday’s Miles For Smiles-Run For Cleft Care, now is the chance for you to give your help and support for these children with facial deformities and create smiles, change lives and turn a life around!
