ATTENTION: THIS RACE HAS BEEN MOVED TO MARCH 3, 2013 at 5:30 IN THE MORNING! Plus, a 5k Category has been added. Read on:
Message from the organizers (RUNRIO) on the postponement:
Dear Runners,
Iit is with deep regret that we have to announce that the Battle of the Sexes race event which was originally scheduled to happen on Saturday, January 26, 2013 as a night-time race, is postponed.
Despite being able to acquire approval/permits from the SM Mall of Asia and Pasay City authorities, we will be unable to organize a night-time scheduled race because we were not granted approval by the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) who has jurisdiction on vital portions of the Battle of the Sexes race route.
Citing safety and security concerns, the PRA have declined to provide approval on the use of the road under their authority/jurisdiction on a Saturday night race. With this being the case, RunRio in partnership with Hotel Sofitel will need to reschedule and redesign the said race as a Sunday-morning event, thus the need for postponement. The new schedule of the Battle of the Sexes race will be on Sunday, March 3 at 5:30AM.In line with the postponement, registration period will be extended until February 17 for Online Registration and until February 24 for In-Store Registration.

Runners who have already registered for this event need not worry since their registration will still be valid for use on the same event. For further concerns, you may send us an email via feedback@runrio.com with the subject “Battle of the Sexes” or call us in any of the following RunRio hotlines:

Globe – 0927 347 7700
Smart – 0929 717 8164
Landline – (632) 703-1736

Our apologies for this inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you at the rescheduled Battle of the Sexes event!

Sincerely yours,

The RunRio Team

January 19, 2013
========================================================
They call it the Battle of the Sexes but i would like to call it “Catch Me If You Can” to give it a naughtier and more taunting challenge. This race, to be held at the Mall of Asia grounds on March 3, 2013 will fit male versus female runners in a head-to-head battle with the females being given a seven to ten minute head start and the men trying to chase them down over the 10k route.
Fair enough as i may say. The head start time (7-10 mins) will be finally decided as soon as the race organizers, Runrio determines the best times of the local elite women runners over 10k against those of the elite men so it can be adjusted accordingly.
The rules are pretty clear here: Each gender will have their own separate lanes to run. At the start of the race, no male and female should be running together; no male and female holding hands while running; females can hold hands together while men can also do so if they want to (hmm..!), no male and female pacing each other. Thus, ladies will play catch me if you can while the guys will try to salvage their pride by trying not to be the last runner to cross the finish line!
Easy?
Here are the details:
Sofitel-Runrio Battle of the Sexes, will be held on March 3, 2013, 5:30am at the SM Mall of Asia with 10k and 5k race categories. Male and Female participants will compete with each other in one finish line, one venue, one distance. Female runners will run first then after 7 to 10 minutes, male runners will start the race.

Suchero: Life Is Sweeter

After a long, hard run, nothing soothes me more than a hot cup of brewed coffee taken with brown sugar and my favorite sugar substitutes.

Move over, Slenda and Equal! Though these 2 brands (which i use) are the most common sugar alternatives you’ll encounter in coffee shops, restaurants and even at homes, there’s a healthier sugar sweetener made from the sap of coconut trees and it has been recently launched here in the country called SUCHERO.

SUCHERO is an ideal sweetener substitute for the preparation of low GI diets and can be safely used by diabetic patients or patients with high sugar level. When incorporated in low GI diets, SUCHERO can help in the proper management of diabetes, weight control, prevention of heart disease and obesity.

A couple of days ago at the Red Crab Restaurant at Venice Piazza, McKinley Hill, BGC, i was fortunate enough to attend a soft launching of the SUCHERO, getting some insights of the product from no less than Mr. Joey Villa, president of the Philippine-based Churner Group which produces Suchero.

He explained that the product is made from the sap of coconut trees, it has a rich caramel flavor and no after taste. It is also rich in amino acids and vitamins as well as minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iron, and manganese.

To prove his point, the great chefs at Red Crab prepared for us, the press and bloggers, a sampling of different cuisines using Suchero as an ingredient. It was a feast of the eyes as well as of the taste buds, yummy and delectable.

Here is the menu:

Duo of wrapped Parma Ham and caramelized Melon

Prawn Galantina over bed of tomato paste Pasta

Seared Tuna Nicoise Salad drizzled with Creamy Balsamic Vinaigrette

Maple glazed Spare Ribs with Cheddar whipped Potatoes and Roasted Vegetables

Barako Cheese Cake (yummy!)

Assorted Brownies with pecan nuts

Where’s my Reebok shoe, B?

While all selections were really delicious, their Barako Cheese Cake was really to die for, made from Batangas barako coffee, soft cheese and the Suchero sweetener. Not too sweet but just right for the taste buds.

Thanks to the staff of Suchero for the samplings we brought home, to Blas Tiangco for organizing and inviting us to this event, to Mr. Joey Villa for his warm presence and introduction of the product to us and to Red Crab Restaurant for the delightful meal!

PRESS RELEASE:

Current trends of choosing a healthier lifestyle and quality diet is on the rise as our lives today are filled with products leaning on the “instant”, “sweetened” and “artificial.” So it is refreshing to find a sweetener that is all natural (no aspartame and no sucralose) and fits the requirement for a healthy and nutritious diet.

SUCHERO is a nutrient-rich, low-glycemic crystalline sweetener that looks, tastes, dissolves and melts almost exactly like sugar, but it is completely natural and unrefined. SUCHERO has no additives, no preservatives, no chemicals, and it is unbleached and unfiltered.

The best sugar alternative fit for the whole family must not only be healthy and all-natural, it must also be certified organic, according to Joey Villa, president of the Philippine-based Churner Group which produces Suchero.

This alternative sweetener has an organic certification from the US Department of Agriculture – National Organic Program and a Certificate of Conformity from EU (European Union) Organic Products. Both certifications ensure that no synthetic inputs or chemical fertilizers and other harmful ingredients were used to produce Suchero.

The best proof of Suchero’s effectiveness and safety as a sweetener is in the tasting. Made from the sap of coconut trees, it has a rich caramel flavor and no after taste. It is also rich in amino acids and vitamins as well as minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iron, and manganese.

Explains Villa: “The human body does not produce minerals and these must be provided from food sources. Vitamins have little function without minerals. Minerals enable the vitamins to effectively accomplish its purposes.”

According to Villa, health buffs especially those who join marathons take Suchero straight from the packet to replace their energy after strenuous activity. “Suchero provides them the extra energy they need but does not
dramatically raise their glycemic index the way real sugar does.”

After a GI spike, the body ironically feels lethargic and weak. Better yet, Suchero behaves like sugar. “Thus, when a recipe calls for one cup of sugar, one may use one cup of Suchero without worrying about any deviations on taste. Preparing and cooking food is thus easy and hassle-free,” according to Villa.

In the Philippines, Suchero is available nationwide in leading supermarkets, health food stores, organic stores, and drug stores. Prominent restaurants using SUCHERO are Chateau 1771, Sentro, Sugar Leaf, Via Mare, Sophia’s Mediterranean, Mona Lisa Ristorante and Bistro Filipino.
