Running At The Capitol Commons in Pasig City

Nothing compares running on a track oval where the surface is soft on both feet and legs, and is ideal for speed training like intervals, repeats, time trials, drills or just jogging around its soft lanes.  So when the Philsports arena or better known as ULTRA  in Pasig City had to close down for major overhaul repairs on its facilities, many were at a loss on where to take their speed training to.

I’ve heard that some runners have transferred at the Capitol Common complex where runners now congregate in the evenings for their usual running sessions.

Capitol Commons is the former site of the Rizal Provincial Capitol. Located at the corner of Meralco Avenue and Shaw Boulevard in Pasig City, the 10-hectare property has been transformed into a mixed-used development area that will feature residences, commercial establishments, and office spaces. At night, part of the grounds serves as food-truck stalls.

Last Saturday morning, i and the rest of my team were able to visit the place for the first time during our weekly long run. It’s a nice place, traces of development are in full swing although activities were at a standstill while running that early morning. Cafes, restos and other eateries were either being spruced up or still being constructed and the medium-rise residential areas were now springing up like mushrooms.

Inside Capitol Commons

It may be the new playground to those who miss running at ULTRA but the Capitol Commons provided little running space but still a good venue for short to medium distance runs, sprints, core group exercises and running drills.

If you live in the Pasig area, have little time but want a quick, quality work-out on an uncrowded, peaceful setting, then the Capitol Commons is the place to be!

Photo: While the rest were prepping up for their week-end races, we visited for the first time the Capitol Common grounds in Pasig for a short run. Not much running space provided here but still ideal for short sprints, core group exercises and drills. I heard this place is bustling with activities at night...may have to visit again! Tara na! :)
