Having established itself as one of the Philippines’ premier off road ultra running events, the 2015 TNF 100 Philippines is set to attract participants from across the world that will come to compete alongside fellow runners on this new spellbinding route.

TNF 100 Philippines’ main attraction is that all main trails have never been used in past races and as with previous TNF 100 events, you get to challenge climbing on mountain passes located in Tagaytay and Batangas. They traverse the foothills, ridges of mountains and climb atop the crater of Taal Volcano so all participants will be able to enjoy the views of the mountains, lake and vistas surrounding it.

The Taal Volcano which is often described as one of the smallest volcanoes in the world, is actually one of the largest. The Energizer Night Race Manila 2015 will again illuminate the streets of Filinvest City in Alabang with the staging of their first ever OPEN LOOP RUN where runners take the challenge to finish as many 3K loops as they can within 2 hours. The running event will be on June 27, 2015.

For every 3k loop that the runners will run, P100 will be donated to Bantay Bata 163 as part of its operation and medical treatment funds. With about 3,000 expected runners, the Energizer Night Race Manila 2015 aims to raise P1,000,000.00!

ENERGIZER NIGHT RACE MANILA 2015 TO BENEFIT THE CHILDREN OF BANTAY BATA 163

Energizer is set to launch its first open run on June 27, 2015 where over 3,000 runners are expected to light up the streets of Filinvest City in Alabang. This is part of Energizer’s ongoing commitment to share positivenergy with the children of Bantay Bata 163.

According to Claire Guevarra, senior brand manager of Energizer, the company’s partnership with Bantay Bata 163 allowed them to further their thrust in giving back to the community.

“”It is important to put self-improvement as your daily goal in life, but stretching your arms to further help others is one of the best indicators that we have lived fully. With our partnership with Bantay Bata 163, we were able to realize this, and we will continue to engage ourselves in a partnership that nurtures both the brand and the beneficiaries it embraces.” said Guevarra.

As an open run, the participants are encouraged to keep going and run as far as they can within the 2 hours given time.

According to Vincent Lizo, Energizer Philippines’ business director, the first open run bears truth that no competition is needed if we want to help improve the lives of children.

“Being generous is all about benefiting others more than yourself”, Lizo said. “For its part, Energizer, as a company, will recognize every runner of this event as a winner since no medal nor any form of special recognitions are needed to fulfill our responsibilities to the community,” added Lizo.

Meanwhile, MJ Tiquia, Energizer brand activations manager, shared that the company will offer a different running experience to its loyal participants. This year’s race kit is priced at 700 pesos covering any distance, which includes a race singlet, race bib, Energizer headlight, Energizer cap, and Schick Xtreme 3 Razor. It will also provide access to pre and post race activities, which will feature different bands to provide fun and entertainment.

“”The runners’ time will be monitored through the radio frequency identification (RFID), which tracks every 3k loop a runner makes. Kilometer markers in the race route are available to serve as the runners’ references,”” Tiquia said. “”For this event, runners will have to run as many loops as they can to keep on going for positivenergy.”

A battery meter will light up every time a runner finishes a three-kilometer run. This battery meter will compile all the three kilometer runs every runner makes until it reaches a one million target. This will be put on view through an LED-display onstage, and in the start and finish arc.

“”We would like this year’s night race to be the participants’ source of fulfillment since they are able to radiate positivenergy to the people involved,” Tiquia said.

Health Matters TV: Just For Run Join The Fun on June 7, 2015

Don’t be put off by the generic title of this event as Health Matters TV, a life-style and health show at ANC is dead serious in getting us on the road to a healthy lifestyle by organizing this 3k, 5k and 10k Run for the benefit of the Pedro E. Diaz High School and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa. This run aims to create an annual event that is both health- and value-oriented and will deliver impact in the community, specially for the youth.

The night run will give the unique feel and experience to the runners who will race the scenic and challenging course of SBMA. Those who previously ran this marathon truly enjoyed this course as it gives you a real taste of the different areas of Subic Bay Freeport Zone – ocean fronts, city centre and parks.

The course is a combination of flat stretches with  portions of slight to moderately long uphills. With X-Tribe as race organizers, expect the organization to be very good! The Olympic style start and finish will still be at the Remy Field. Lots of refreshments afterwards including a nice medal and race singlet.

For those looking for a shorter and more relaxed run, the event also offers a 10km, 7km, 5km and 3km no-frills fun run on Sunday morning, November 22.

With the expected 5,000 runners, SIM organizers, with the support of SBMA expects a festive and fun event by incorporating an outdoor concert and food fair at Remy Field on Saturday night (November 21).

Subic International Marathon Celebrates in 2015, A Legacy Edition

The Subic International Marathon (SIM) will be celebrating its 10th year “running” with the SIM Legacy Edition on November 21-22, 2015. The two-day event, happening inside the scenic Subic Bay Freeport Zone will showcase a night race (42k and 21k distances) on Saturday, November 21 and an early morning fun run (10k, 7k, 5k and 3k distances) the following day, Sunday.

This event will serve as a grand kick-off activity to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s Anniversary celebration on November. The SIM Legacy Run, organized by PNP General Samson Tucay (Ret.) last 2008 was then a night marathon event for an intimate number of participants. It was a symbolic nod to continue and uphold the advocacy of running as a tool to transform lives.

This year, on its 10th anniversary, SIM organizers decided to bring back the Legacy Edition and give tribute to a decade of running for fun and transformation.

Li-Ning Manila Run 2015: June 28, 2015

The Li-Ning global sports brand have decided to “make the change” in Manila as they launch the 1st Li-Ning Manila Run, a 5k, 10k and 21k race to be held on June 28, 2015 at Seaside Boulevard, the Mall of Asia grounds.

This race, which expects to create a splash for its running gears and apparels is expected to draw no less than 3,000 runners and allows you the chance to experience the anticipated fun atmosphere of the Li-Ning brand at the MOA grounds!

Li-Ning Manila Run 2015

NIKE Women’s 10K Manila 2015: A Short Review

Fireworks mark the start of the 2015 WeRun Manila All-Women’s 10k Race!

Saturday evening was supposed to be a regular rest or chill night for me but that didn’t happen as i was invited to don on non-running gear and pick up my camera to witness and document the first ever NIKE We Run Manila All Women’s 10k Race as part of the media/blogger contingent for NIKE and that presented an opportunity to be a part of everyone else’s excitement!

Whether one was running as an elite to take center stage or a newbie running a 10k for the first time, Race Director Coach Rio Dela Cruz sure knows how to put together a grand event uniting 8,692 strong women to physically and mentally challenge themselves and even inspire us to watch from the sidelines their limitless energies to break the tape at the finish line!

Like all the NIKE races in the past, this all-woman version of the race was very well-organized, notwithstanding the big crowd of runners that took off in 5 wave starts, at 2-minute intervals. The start was so efficient that it caused no congestion even when some runners stopped to take selfies while crossing the starting lines. Coach Rio made sure that all runners were moving in and out of the corrals to give way for the next wave of participants to their starting positions.

It was an eye-opener for me to be a witness to things runners have to go through which i assumed was only normal, being a long-time participant of race events–the excitement, suspense, thrill of waiting at the starting line, i found a new appreciation for what exactly a race represents.

Almost all roads leading to the starting area were closed to the public but we were fortunate enough to be brought near the starting area on a media van. We then alighted and brought to the race village by Nike’s media relations group, EON.

The race village is actually a huge multi-level car park converted to a runners’ haven where you find booth set-ups, freebies claim area, baggage counters, crossfit competition areas and the most awesome part, the roof-top deck where you get the extra freebie shirt if you came among the first 500 runners. Present too was up and coming DJ Jess playing some vibrating pop music, a massage area for the finishers (which i availed to give my aching back and shoulders some rub-down) and a hair saloon for those having bad hair moments after the finish!

Also at the grand parade ground was a huge air-conditioned dome where one could sit down and relax to enjoy the projected images above the ceiling which Nike had set up.

From the starting line, i immediately went back to the finish line to watch the fastest females break the tape as i wanted to see who were the fastest of them in the local running scene. First place finisher was from my Soleus Team, Cris Jaro who clocked in at 39 minutes, not too fast by local standards but one who just a week before finished the Borneo International Marathon in about 3:10 hours, placing in the top 5 amongst women!

It was a vibrant evening just seeing all these runners cue up to take pictures in front of the Nike walls and i was content on taking their pictures too where i saw old and new friends giving them a pat for a job well done.

The biggest take away for them is probably the feeling of accomplishment, specially for the newbie runners who proved that they could finish their first 10k if they commit the time and energy into it! I saw other runners congratulating and hugging each other while some were in tears while crossing the finish line. For them, it didn’t matter what their finish times were and it didn’t matter who came ahead of whom. What mattered was that everyone had shared an experience, whether in pain or in glory and it’s hard to beat the energy of a women’s race!

ROX Outdoor Festival’s “Get Outside” A Success!

Great to know that the ROX Outdoor Festival 2015, a week-end sports festival held last April 18 and 19, 2015 was a resounding success!
This outdoor festival was aimed at promoting outdoor adventure sports and is a showcase for the hardcore as well as new-comers to take part in various adventurous sports while an equally good opportunity to learn more on the ins and outs of  having an enjoyable experience outdoors.
This event hosted a bouldering competition and a bike track competition. Apart from these, the festival also hosted fun, recreational activities where one can indulge in many challenges like the Pump Up the Track Challenge, Mountain Athletics Challenge, Trying Stuff Challenge, Outrun the Road Challenge, Strider’s competition for kids, and other competitions.
R.O.X. Outdoor Festival Welcomes Everyone Outside

R.O.X. celebrated the best of the outdoors with the R.O.X. Outdoor Festival, held from April 18 to 19, 2015 at Bonifacio High Street. Attended by outdoor enthusiasts and converts of all kind, this two- day event marked the culmination of R.O.X.’s Get Outside campaign, which encouraged people to turn to a life of non-stop adventure.

Competitions, games, challenges, booths, shows, and workshops at the event kept excitement at a permanent high, as participating outdoor brands and organizations introduced people everything the outdoors had to offer.
One of the event’s big features was the R.O.X. Zero Gravity Bouldering Competition, sponsored by premier wall-climbing group PowerUp in partnership with the Sport Climbing Association of the Philippines, Inc. (SCAPI), where bouldering champions from all over the country fought for the top title and a round-trip airfare for two to Kota Kinabalu by Cebu Pacific Air.
A more grueling kind of challenge met participants of Mountain Hardwear’s Last Man Standing competition, staged on the first day of the festival. Fourteen hardy participants fought to stay on each of their 3-foot columns for nearly five hours as they endured various physical challenges on top of the heat of high summer. The winner took home the complete outdoor treatment: an all-expense paid trip to Coron, Palawan courtesy of Cebu Pacific Air and The Funny Lion Inn plus a complete set of gear by Mountain Hardwear.
Event-goers also proved eager to take on the rest of the festival’s activities, including Fox’s Pump Up the Track Challenge, The North Face’s Mountain Athletics Challenge, Columbia’s Trying Stuff Challenge, Salomon’s Outrun the Road Challenge, Strider’s competition for kids, and other high-octane pursuits.
For people new to the outdoors, the event also offered opportunities for them to get started. Various outdoor brands, service providers, groups, and communities packed Bonifacio High Street with booths for people to jumpstart their adventure.
Those interested in niche outdoor experiences found sound advice from the event’s talks and workshops, such as Liliane Cobiao’s introduction to traveling around the world, Tamara Benitez and
Mike Eijansantos’ guide to filming the outdoors, Carla Grino’s lecture on exploring the outdoors with your kid, and other highly useful topics by outdoor professionals.
Come evening, the festival switched on a more entertaining and relaxed vibe with performances by Lucille and Indio I at the amphitheater and big screen film viewings for families and groups of friends sprawled on the grass.
Without actually taking people up mountains, across open seas, or into a long and winding trail in the wild, the R.O.X. Outdoor Festival proved that the road to adventure is easy to find. It only takes a brave heart and a desire to Get Outside.
