It has been a while since i last attended a summer outing with my co-Runnex members so when Runnex Events Committee Head, Mike Lim decided to do one in Antipolo, i and the rest of the members saw the opportunity to unwind, get to know more of the newer members, stretch our feet up and take this break after our usual Sunday long runs.
It was to be a whole day affair that Sunday, April 26 so members were required to be there early after the running clinic at the U.P. campus. Earlier that day, i had a prior scheduled trail run with the Takbo.ph runners at Parawagan, Montalban so after the run, i had to rush to Antipolo and join the Runnex group.
The resort in Antipolo is the Callo Spa Resort, an exclusive rent-a-resort which has a family pool, outdoor jacuzzi, badminton courts, a full service spa, videoke bar and is also used for weddings, birthdays, seminars, etc.
I arrived at the resort at 11:00am and the place was already bustling with activities. Many were on the pool, swimming and pool running; others were at the barbecue pit grilling what was to be our lunch; some of the ladies were at the spa having a massage; the older members, between sips of beer, were watching TV at a long table anticipating the boxing match between Gerry Penalosa and his Puerto Rican opponent (which Penalosa eventually lost) and the rest were just lounging around the pool chatting and enjoying their drinks. Our lunch consisted of grilled spare ribs, chicken-pork adobo, grilled tilapia, hashed corned-beef, fruits in season and a varying array of desserts. Beer and other drinks were overflowing.
After lunch, the fun resumed as budding Martin Nieveras, Charice Pempengcos and Yoyoy Villames were discovered at the videoke bar while some of the officers and directors were huddled in a meeting to discuss the club’s forthcoming activities particularly, the 26th Anniversary Race and October’s 1st Quezon City International Marathon.
The group had a wonderful time and the party broke-up at about 4:30pm when members started to leave for home. It was then decided that the next activity would be an overnight stay at Mt. Makiling in Los Banos, Laguna sometime in July courtesy of Runnex Director Arsi Balisacan.
Till next time, guys.
