1st World Vision Run

Yesterday, i attended the 55th Anniversary Celebration and the launching of the 1st World Vision Fun Run and witnessed how the lives of out-of-school children and school drop-outs have been transformed by being able to graduate from school and live comfortable lives through World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Program.

In this 1st World Vision Run, to be held on June 24, 2012 at the Bonifacio Global City, World Vision invites runners to share the same kind of love that can change lives—lives of children in need. With a very small act of kindness these children will be able to look ahead to better lives with better opportunities, all because you willingly opened your heart and share love!

This Run  is a way for you to make a real and lasting difference for ONE precious boy or girl in need. Proceeds from registration fees shall be pooled together with other World Vision resources so children, families and communities may be provided with the following:

  • Education
  • Skills training
  • Improved Nutrition
  • Livelihood assistance
  • Health care
  • Safe water
  • Values formation
Let’s support this run and help children build a better future for themselves. Here are the details of the race:

“Towards Fullness of Life” is the theme for World Visions very first Fun Run to be held at the Bonifacio Global City on June 24, 2012. The organization hopes to partner with new groups to help more children and sustain communities to reach their full potential by addressing the causes of poverty and injustice.

World Vision is a Christian development, relief and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities worlwide. Celebrating its 55th Anniversary this year, World Vision stands by its year-long theme “Sharing the Joy of Hope”.

May 27, 2012 Races: Choose Your Wild

May 27, 2012, Sunday is deluged with great races both here and outside of Metro Manila. There’s a race for you here, depending on the distance you have prepared for, its location, fees, raffle prizes or advocacy that you choose. Take your pick!

I’ll see you in one of these races…

By The Company We Keep

They’re a special breed of runners you either want to be with or you care little about, depending on your outlook on running. For sure, they’re fun to be around specially when all talk is about their latest conquest of their farthest run ever and these include jaunts of 102km or 160 km ultra races.

I was with these esteemed runners just after their grueling 160km BDM “fun run” a few weeks ago when Ultra-marathoner Paolo Osmeña, who successfully finished this race after his 2nd attempt treated his “team” to a sumptuous dinner and drinking binge to celebrate his conquest, acknowledging the support he had during his trying times during the race!  So it was interesting to see how Paolo was doing (still ecstatic, as i noticed) and how the rest of the guys were coping up with their recoveries.

But recovery it seems is out of their vocabulary as most of them were already geared to run the Condura Marathon the week after and many of them did! Hard to imagine why they can’t get enough of running 160 kms as their main course and savor another 42kms the week after for dessert!

It was good to be meeting for the first time George Dolores, a regular in the ultra running scene and Keisha Fule,  who i initially thought was a Kenyan until i saw her pictures on blogs and realized that she was one of the guys (sorry po). She may be all hard-as-nails on the roads and trails but she is genteel and humble in person, none of the brashness that you may associate with other top runners of her stature.

Anyways, we had a great time drinking and dining and i had to be the listener most of the time when they tried to out-do each other in reminiscing the happy,  funny and mostly torturous moments ever imagined in their race of a life-time!

Again, congrats to Paolo and the rest of the BDM160 finishers!

Here are some pictures of the gathering (there’s more in my FB page if you care to look at it) :

Run United-1, 2012 All Set

One of the most successful running series held last year, the Run United Race Series will once again hug the limelight with the staging of Run United-1, 2012. and will be held on March 4, with 500m, 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k race categories. All categories except for 21k will start and finish at the SM Mall of Asia while 21k will start at Bonifacio Global City and finish at SM Mall of Asia.

Runrio and Unilab have promised to make this year’s series more enjoyable and organized. Here are the details of the race:

21KM FINISHER’S MEDAL:

The Run United 1 21km Finisher’s Medal is a unique medal by itself and at the same time is a unique part of a 3-piece puzzle made up of medals from the RunRio Trilogy/Run United Series legs. Register and Finish the 21km/21km/32km of legs 1/2/3 respectively and form the medal puzzle which is the 2012 unique RunRio Trilog/Run United Series Trilogy Puzzle!

RACE ROUTES:

10k Route

5k Route

21k Route.

SHUTTLE SERVICE:

The organizers will be providing a SHUTTLE SERVICE for 21km participants. The service will have the SM Mall of Asia as its pick-up point and will bring the 21km runners to the 21km starting line at the BGC. Why SM Mall of Asia as pick-up point? Consideration was given to 21km runners who may have other members of the family who will be running a shorter distance so SM Mall of Asia is a more feasible originating point. Besides, there are more available parking areas there than in BGC.

More details and mechanics for the Shuttle Service will be posted once available.

BAGGAGE AREA/SERVICE:

Baggage Services will be available at the BGC race area in the form of ROVING BAGGAGE SERVICE VANS which will be on standby prior to race start and will move to the SM Mall of Asia to bring these checked-in baggages to the designated Baggage Claim Areas.
