Brooks Running: New Kicks On The Block

From the ever softest midsole cushioning to the lightest and bounciest energy returns, running shoes have changed dramatically in 2018. And with 2018 in full swing, a new generation of groundbreaking road running shoes have started to emerge, led by the launch of Brooks’ innovative DNA Loft and DNA AMP features.

The new shoes – Levitate 2, features Brooks’ innovative DNA AMP, Ghost 11, and Glycerin 16 features the newest technology of Brooks: DNA LOFT, while Transcend 5 still has SUPER DNA but an updated guide rails and Adrenaline GTS 18 has its original BioMoGo DNA.
DNA Loft – The NEW standard in soft

A finely calibrated mix of EVA foam, rubber, and air, DNA LOFT is the new midsole cushioning in our softest running shoe yet. Engineered for unequaled comfort, EVA Foam puts more “ahhhhh” in every step, making this the softest midsole we’ve ever offered. Also an added rubber means you can stop worrying about your cushion holding up and enjoy the same blissful softness whether it’s your first – or 500th – time lacing them up. Extra air in the midsole ensures that DNA LOFT won’t weigh you down. Because cushioning that’s soft as a feather should be as light as one, too. Get lost in your run with the cushion that’ll keep you comfortable, step after step, run after run.

DNA AMP – The power to outrun yourself

DNA AMP is a polyurethane (PU)-based cushioning system strategically engineered to provide unparalleled energy return. The foundation of DNA AMP is a PU foam that naturally expands, returning energy as force is applied. To deliver an amplified experience, Brooks encased the foam in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) skin that resists horizontal expansion to deliver energy directly back to the runner. The result is an engineered compound that provides exceptional energy return.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up the rest of this year and what we know about Brook’s hottest running shoes.

Levitate 2 – Maximum Energy Return

The new Levitate 2 returns more energy with every stride, so runners feel like they can run further and faster. Combined with an outsole that moves quickly from heel to toe and a new sleek knit upper, Levitate 2 delivers maximum energy with every stride.

Ghost 11 – The smoothest ride possible gets softer and lighter

After a decade of engineering, the Ghost has more than earned its name. Straight out of the box it’s as comfortable as any shoe you’ve worn for years. And the Ghost 11’s ethereal feel is rivaled only by its responsiveness and durability.

Transcend 5Running’s most advanced support system, served super soft

Offering super soft cushioning and plush comfort, the Transcend 5 features Guide Rail

Technology, an advanced support system that provides holistic support from feet to hips.

Glycerin 16The ultimate in softness and supreme comfort—now even softer

You might be able to outrun our engineers. But when it comes to supreme comfort, super-soft cushioning and mile-after-mile plushness, you’ll never out-engineer them.

Adrenaline GTS 18Perfect balance of soft cushion and support, modernized

Now in its 18th version, the best-selling Adrenaline GTS is better than ever, with the same trusted cushion and support runners have grown to love, plus a new, streamlined look.

Brooks Happy Run Recap

It’s tough to be at the receiving end of criticisms and complaints specially if you’re the Race Director of a major race that didn’t live up to expectations, even if it wasn’t the RD’s fault at all. At last Sunday’s Brooks Happy Run, the 15k runners who were already lined-up at the start were told there would be a slight delay before they would be fired-off. Five minutes had passed, then 10 and the runners became restless. Doc Marvs and i were standing just outside the starting line waiting for these runners to start so we could also prepare and line up for our 10k and 5k races which were to follow.

Fifteen minutes had passed and the runners were beginning to get incensed. I was looking at the 2 DJs nervously as they were continuously harping on other things to entertain them which only further agitated the runners. They should have just given an explanation why the delay was taking so long.

Little did we know that the cause of delay was happening a few kilometers from the starting area. It seems that the group which was contracted to deliver the water and set-up the water stations arrived late and had to scramble to get these ready before the runners arrived. This was relayed to us by one of the Brooks organizers, Julius who had just arrived from the area and hurry back to the starting line.

Race Director Thumbie Remigio had to make that crucial decision of delaying the start as he didn’t want the first wave of runners to reach Buendia Avenue without the water stations set-up first. So there. Definitely no fault of Thumbie’s but the delay have a trickle-down effect and it showed during the race. I was told that the water stations at the 15k route were set-up at irregular intervals, some of them had even run dry and marshals were not in their proper places.

Good thing for us 5k runners, there was nary a hitch on our run and except for the late start, we had adequate supply of water, markers were present and the marshals were at crucial positions of the route. I’m sure Thumbie will be able to improve from here as he has delivered well-received races in the past. Here are some pictures of the race:

Brooks Run Happy Race All Set

During the early 80s when i was just starting to join the first running boom, i wore the Brooks “Vantage” which was one of my first running shoes. Back then, it was available at most SM Department stores and retailed at around P600-700 a pair. I liked the feel of it and along with the Saucony running shoes which was also available during those times, it proved to be a very good alternative to the Adidas and Nike brands which were the top picks of those times.

Since being re-introduced two years ago, Brooks has garnered a lot of accolades and has elevated the brand as a top choice among discerning runners of all abilities. An industry leader, Brooks is responsible for unveiling many breakthrough footwear technologies. In 1975, Brooks pioneered the use of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate™ midsoles (EVA) which is now an industry standard. Brooks’ patented cushioning technology HydroFlow®—which functions like a hydraulic shock absorber upon impact—debuted in 1989, and Brooks introduced PDRB® in 2002 to control excessive pronation. In 2006, Brooks tackled midsole innovation once again with the debut of MoGo, a midsole compound delivering increased cushioning, more energy return, and less fatigue—without sacrificing stability. The latest entrant to the midsole lineup, BioMoGo launches in July 2008 as the first-ever biodegradable running shoe midsole.
