Soleus To Unveil Their New GPS Watches Soon!

There’s no shortage of great GPS watches on the market if you’re looking to buy your first, upgrade or have another spare to use on your daily sports activities. Even so, there are certainly some watches that stand above others, either because they have multiple specs, they’re easy to operate, with up-loadable data and is affordable with practical uses.

To a runner or triathlete, there are so many things to consider when buying a GPS watch . Sure, you can run down all the standard specs and features and look for the ones with the highest numbers—GPS accuracy, heart rate monitors, display size, functionality, battery capacity, all that stuff—but high scores doesn’t add up to a great watch that’s intended for practical and specific use in your training or racing.

A few nights ago, I, together with another blogger, Abet Ocampo were given the first dibs on 3 of the latest SOLEUS GPS Watches that will come out in the local market soon. Thanks to Ms. Judith Staples, Marketing Head of the biggest sports and fashion watch distributor in the country, L-TIME STUDIO for letting us take a first look of her babies. It’s been a while since we were introduced to their previous GPS models like the FIT 1.0, Tour and Cross-Country.

The SOLEUS Watch brand is evolving. In its own distinct way, it is becoming the most popular and most affordable GPS watch locally that a runner can have. The dependable pieces of SOLEUS has given us a great training tool over the years with evermore exciting and practical functions minus the bells and whistles the high-end watches possess. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t.

As a result, at the entry-level, the watches, tagged with its low price are becoming more popular and the use of GPS has become increasingly commonplace to both experienced and newbie runners.

Here’s a look at SOLEUS’ latest 3 GPS models:

The Soleus GPS One: US$ 79.00

The Soleus GPS ONE: New Ultra Thin Profile –
GPS Receiver
Distance
Pace / Speed
calories Burned
Auto Lap / 100 Lap
1/100 Sec Chronograph
EL Backlight
Night Mode
8 Hours GPS Battery Life
Rechargeable Battery
30M Water Resistant

ONE is the simplest model, satisfying the preferences of many recreational runners as well as elites who value pen and paper and record their activity in running journals.  Living in a technology-driven society we often overlook the purists who still value the simplicity of running.  Retailing at only $79, One offers the accuracy of all other GPS models but revels in the simplicity of a one-touch start.  With a display that has three lines of data, the user can easily monitor their run time, pace and distance and be done.  One is the perfect tool for people who embrace the experience of running and don’t want to electronically store all their data.

Soleus GPS Turbo: US$ 129.00

GPS Turbo – 8 hours of GPS battery life,6 interval training sessions, auto pause detection, Pace Partner, vibration alerts, 3 lines of customizable data, 5 programmable alarms, automatic lap splits, and 100-lap memory (just to name a few).

TURBO in addition to One, is new to the Soleus GPS family.  It fulfills the needs of the active community who are seeking enhanced real-time feedback and data by adding brand new features.  Turbo measures and displays all of the standard GPS information: time, pace and distance, and has included metrics that make it a more enhanced training tool.

“Pace Partner” allows you to pre-determine a pace range in which you’d like to maintain for a run.  “Pace Alerts” will then notify you by a beep or vibration when falling off pace.  Also, in an effort to make the device more user-friendly, especially when running through congested areas that require frequent stops, Soleus introduces “Auto Pause.”

This uses GPS data to identify when you’ve stopped forward progress, and automatically pauses your run.  The Auto Pause function then recognizes when you’ve begun running again, and starts the watch, all without the user having to hit any buttons.  Like FlyTurbo is compatible with online training communities, and allows the user to upload all of their stored workouts.

Soleus GPS Fly: US$ 99.00

Another color of the Soleus GPS Fly

The Soleus GPS Fly tells you speed, distance, pace, and calories burned. GPS Fly offers the most essential running data alongside an 8 hour battery life, 3 lines of customizable data, 100-lap memory, automatic lap splits, and 30 run data storage.

FLY is an upgrade to Soleus’ number one selling watch, the Fit.  The added features include a smaller casing and band width for a more comfortable fit, and a refined user interface by utilizing descriptive icons in place of finely printed words to describe navigation. The Fly is offered in four new colorways and retails for $99.  Similar to its predecessor, the Fly measures and stores all relevant data like time, pace, distance, and calories burned, and is uploadable to multiple popular online training communities that allows runners to log their workouts and interact with other athletes.

Austin, Texas – June 23, 2015 – From the beginning, Soleus has positioned itself as a running company; creating high functioning, reliable, and stylish timing and monitoring products in a cost-effective manner for runners worldwide.  Using the latest technology as well as soliciting functional and creative feedback from sponsored athletes, has enabled Soleus to continue refining their products.  This process has led to the development of three entirely new models of GPS running watches.  Soleus is proud to introduce OneFly and Turbo to their comprehensive product line.

“Our relationships with runners all over world, especially our elite athletes, gives us tremendous insight into the needs and wants of every type of runner,” says Soleus founder and CEO, David Arnold.  “Our goal is to have a full portfolio of products for every type of runner, and with OneFly and Turbo, we’re serving a growing and diverse population of runners.”

Ultimately, this new line of timing products highlights Soleus’ continued commitment to the running community and collaborative investment in the athletes they sponsor and support.  OneFly and Turbo are evidence that high performance doesn’t have to come at an extreme price point, and can help grow the scope of runners who can benefit from Soleus’ diverse portfolio. These new line of SOLEUS GPS watches will be available locally during the first week of August. Prices of each will be announced soon!

VELOCI Sports Watch VE 1052Y

VELOCI Watch VE 1052Y

The VELOCI VE1052Y Digital watch is a men/women’s sports watch that combines functionality, accuracy and vivid displays for any sports you’re into whether it be running, swimming, cycling and so on. It’s shock and water-resistant up to 100 meters.

I was able to take hold of this watch during the victory party of our track and field athletes from the recently concluded South East Asian Games 2015 in Singapore with Veloci Watch and L-Time Studio as part sponsors. This is the watch model our Filipino athletes wore, in and out of the track during the games.

The Veloci Sports VE1052Y has a brusque style and purpose in the Veloci line as it’s an all-around everyday-wear watch that is less about being fashionable and more about being reliable and useful. The rugged appearance, the large digital dials, and the lightness of the watch is meant for all sports and outdoor enthusiasts. It’s even elegant enough even to be worn at the office or in meetings with clients.

This timepiece combines a digital module with 12- or 24-hour time display, a dual time function, a chronograph countdown timer, an alarm chime and is constructed of plastic resin but has a stainless steel back and a touch of white stainless steel bezel to give it an added punch.

Veloci’s’s Indiglo night light lets you read the time even in the middle of  darkness. No more of those guessing games and wondering what time it is when you are out trail running at night. It gives you this amazingly powerful, rugged, expensive-looking watch which is not at all expensive as this particular model comes at just P1,700-P1,800 a piece!

The timepiece comes in just the right size for me and is available in different colors. It’s durable, stylish and are feature packed. Buy one now and try it for yourself.

Team Pilipinas Athletics: Off To The 2015 SEA Games

Breaking News!

Two of our Triathlon athletes, Nikko Huelgas and Claire Adorna both bagged the country’s first gold medals at the SEA Games this weekend. These are the first ever gold medals won by the Philippines at the Games in the sports of triathlon! Another Filipina, Kim Manrobang placed second to Adorna and bagged the silver medal.

Triathlon is a relatively new sport at the SEA Games where we won medals in 2005, 2007, and 2015. In 2005, Sandra Araullo took a silver medal and Arland Macasieb the bronze. In 2007, George Vilog bagged a silver medal and Arland took the bronze, while Sandra again won silver and Maria Lucas took home a bronze.

Today, while we celebrate the victories of triathletes Nikko, Claire and Kim, we await our athletes in the field of athletics who will compete at the 28th Sout East Asian Games starting today and are expected to put in some decent if not, top notch performances. The athletics team are expected to garner at least 8 gold medals.

Just before their departure for Singapore a few days ago, part of our Philippine delegation, our athletics team in particular, were given a sound send-off, spearheaded by L-Time Studio and Veloci Watches. A total of 36 of our best athletes are represented in athletics spearheaded by our marathon contingent consisting of Eduardo Buenavista, Raphael Poliquit Jr. and on the distaff side, Mary Joy Tabal.

PRESS RELEASE:

L TIMESTUDIO and VELOCI Time, two strong players in the Philippine watch industry, are joining forces and partnering with Marriott Hotel Manila to support our local heroes who will be competing at the 28th Southeast Asian Games. L TIMESTUDIO is the forerunner of a retail watch concept for fashion and sport timepieces while VELOCI Time, a homegrown watch brand boasting of stylish design, superior quality, and affordability, is likewise making a mark of its own in the Philippine watch industry.

The Distance Runners

The Jumpers

In an apparent effort to regain the glorious era of Philippine athletics, the timing of the changing of the guards in PATAFA (Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association) couldn’t have been more impeccable. With Dr. Philip Ella Juico’s ascendancy to the post as the new Philippine athletics chief, members of Team Pilipinas athletics are all fired up to accomplish a spectacular performance in the upcoming 2015 SEA Games.

Multi-Events

Hurdlers

If the remarkable athletic achievements of the Philippine athletics team in recent international competitions are an indicator, Team Pilipinas Athletics stands to collect eight (8) gold medals in the upcoming biennial meet in Singapore. Banking on the solid and still improving best performances from the 36-strong athletics team, this scenario will be an easy feat. And with a few turns of good luck, a 12 gold medal haul possibility may not even be remote. The best finish of the Philippines in the SEAG was in 1983, also in Singapore, where it garnered 11 gold-12 silver-9 bronze medals.

Sprinters

Throwers

Among the disciplines where the Philippines could strike gold are (men) hammer throw, 400m, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 4x400m relay, decathlon, long jump, 800m, and pole vault.

Considered as swing events, where a bronze medal is at least a high possibility, are (men) marathon, 1500m, 4x100m, 110m hurdles, discus throw, shot put; (women) long jump, 10,000m, and heptathlon.

With Marestella Torres

The 2015 SEA Games will officially kick off on June 5. Two days after, the mettle of Team Pilipinas athletics will start to be tested. But as they have proven already, nothing is impossible with dedication, focus and tangible support. They have surpassed all challenges and obstacles before. The strong desire to bring honor to the country had carried them through. And this time around, the Philippine athletics team’s morale is at an all time high. The odds are in our favor and our time is now.

Asics AP01 SPM Training Watch: A Short Review

Asics AP01 SPM Training Watch

One of the latest addition to L-Time Studio Boutique’s array of its sports watch collection is the Asics AP01 SPM Training Watch and it has plenty of meat to its slim, sporty frame. Quietly introduced locally last 2013, this watch made a resounding debut last February 1, 2015 when the L-Time Studio (cum Soleus) Runners wore this watch and the Team shirt during the Condura Skyway Marathon.

Asics sports watches have become very popular in many countries specially for young athletes who are into running, biking and racing. It’s no wonder why many Japanese athletes are into it’s concept and have embraced it as their sports watch of choice. The AP01 has a unique style and purpose in the Asics line with very interesting specifications that is less about being fashionable and more about being reliable and useful.

“ASICS watches are designed in the tradition of the technologically advanced, high-quality ASICS shoes that have earned the allegiance of many of the world’s top athletes. Their run training watches, which include the AP01 and AH01, have been developed in collaboration with the ASICS Institute of Science in Kobe, Japan.

The goal and objective of the ASICS Institute of Sport Science is to research, study, and analyze the biomechanics and movement of the human body. All of this work is done for the main goal of improving the training, performance, and enjoyment of both professional and recreational athletes all over the world”, as quoted from the Asics Institute of Sports Science.

Now, let’s see what this particular watch does. With all the functions and cues this watch was meant to represent, the AP01 SPM is meant for running. Everything about this watch directs you to train properly and judiciously. It’s stylish but rugged appearance points you to its three (3) stellar features:

The AP01 SPM Trainer very accurately measures your steps per minute (SPM) and Speed and Distance while you run so you can learn your optimal running stride rate. It manages your pace, running efficiency and reduce the risk of over striding.

SPM Function:

By sensing with the built-in sensor the acceleration generated in the runner’s body during running, this watch measures the number of steps taken, and converts it into the SPM Data (the number of steps taken in 1 minute). It also enables you to control the exercise intensity during running. Using the SPM Data and the data measured with the 1/100 sec chronograph function in combination, you can run in different paces, either faster or slower than usual as desired.

PACE and Distance Function:

Using the algorithm developed by ASICS Institute of Sports Science, this watch can estimate the running pace and the distance run on the basis of the SPM measure during running. The estimate of the distance varies depending on the course and weather conditions and it should be noted that it serves as a general guideline only.

Shoes Impact Meter Function:

You can see how worn out your shoes are from the conditions of the outsole and the upper, but it is difficult to know to what extent the cushioning performance of your shoes have deteriorated. The Shoes Impact Meter indicates the reduction in cushioning performance of your shoes using an index based on such data as total number of steps.

Other great features this training watch possess include:

Double Repeat Timer Function:

Two timers repeat counting down the set time alternately.

Change-over Between Two Time Zones:

The current time of two time zones can be set in the Time mode.

3-Channel Daily Alarm Function:

The alarm can be set to ring at three different times of the day. The alarm of each channel can be engaged or disengaged independently of one another.

300-Lap Memory Function:

Up to 300 measurement data can be stored in memory.

More features here:

  • Plastic case
  • Aluminum bezel
  • Stainless-steel caseback
  • Acrylic glass
  • Urethane band
  • 5bar Water Resistance
  • SPM (Steps Per Minute) measurement
  • Estimated Pace & Distance measurement
  • Shoes Impact Meter
  • Time display (dual time)
  • Chronograph (300 lap memory)
  • Data (recall / SPM, Estimated Pace & Distance , 300 lap memory)
  • Timer (double repeat timer)
  • Alarm (3-channel daily alarm)
  • Backlight
  • Power saving function
  • Display contrast adjustment
  • Two-year battery life

There’s something very enticing about wearing this sports watch that optimizes you to perform effectively. It gives you a sense of pace in real time, knowing when to adjust whether to go faster or slower and having control of your steps to get maximum results.

The Asics AP01 SPM watch on yours truly 🙂

The L-Time Studio-Asics Running Team at the recent Condura Skyway Marathon 2015

You can purchase this watch at just under P5,000.00 at any L-Time Studio Boutique. For its price and features, i cannot recommend the Asics AP01 SPM enough specially if you are particular about pace, stride rate and perceived effort of your runs. It’s one important tool for runners on training!

Philippine Team To The 18TH Asia Masters Athletics 2014 Japan

Last Tuesday, i had the privilege in seeing the masters themselves, our Team Philippines to the 18TH ASIA MASTERS ATHLETICS 2014 for Kitakami City, Iwate Perfecture, Japan which begins today.

As a runner myself who belongs to this “oldies” age group category, i see their youthful enthusiasm in re-gaining the glory they had achieved during their earlier productive years and i can assure you that these athletes are still raring to give it their best shots to represent our country and make us proud.

It was a treat seeing for myself the heroes of yesteryears like Javelin Queen Erlinda Lavandia who in her 60s is still an athlete to reckon with in her age group and the great Reynato Unso who is still the current 400m hurdles record holder and who graced the sports pages of major newspapers back in the 80s.

Special shout-outs too to my friends Edward Kho, Lorna Vejano and Philippine track legend Elma Muros-Posadas who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the affair.

The Asia Masters Athletics Championships is a biennial athletics championships in Asia participated in by athletes over the age of 35. It is the Asian version of the World Masters (formerly Veterans) Athletic Championships inaugurated in 1975 held every two odd-numbered years.

Because all these athletes will be needing some sort of financial and material support, the team has gained some back-up from L-Time Studio and SOMA Sports watches who have taken care of their running gears and sports watches.

Let’s all join together in sending our best wishes and positive energy our athlete’s way as they compete on the world’s Masters stage in Japan. Go Team Philippines!

Asia Masters Athletics Championships:Path of Athletic Immortality

The exploits of well-celebrated sports icons usually leave a lasting memory to a lot of people, mostly sports fans. But when these sports heroes go into retirement, most of the time nothing is heard of them after. Often, the assumption is, after relinquishing their god-like sporting prowess they become inactive normal individuals, succumbing to the ravages of sedentary lifestyle. They become mere mortals, so to speak.

On September 19, this belief will be dispelled as the 19-strong Philippine team composed of mainly former national athletes will battle it out with the rest of Asia in the 18th Asia Masters Athletics Championships in Kitakami City, Japan.

The Asia Masters Athletics Championships is a biennial athletics championships in Asia participated in by athletes over the age of 35. It is the Asian version of the World Masters (formerly Veterans) Athletic Championships inaugurated in 1975 held every two odd-numbered years. The 1st World Masters/Veterans Athletic Championships were held in Toronto, Canada in 1975.

The Philippine participation in AMAC could be traced back to as early as 1996. That was for the 9th AMAC held in October in Seoul, South Korea. Last year’s Philippine campaign spearhead by athletics legends Elma Muros-Posadas and Linda Lavandia was a bumper crop.

A total of 8 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals were bagged by the unrelenting and gutsy Pinoy tracksters. For this year’s edition of the AMAC, Team Philippines, supported by L TIMESTUDIO and SOMA sports watch, is eyeing to match or even surpass this achievement.

So, as to the question what happens to great sports heroes when they step out of the limelight, there could be only one answer. They don’t retire. They become immortals. (PRESS RELEASE)
