Riovana’s Grand Launch!

Finally, Coach Rio’s Riovana Running store had a grand launch and its fixture at the Bonifacio High Street will be one runners will be visiting often in the years to come!

I’ve blogged about Riovana before, here and here–> recovery center and it was time for Coach Rio dela Cruz to have a grand send-off of his two stores (the other located along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City). The grand inaugural was held last February 17 and the BHS store showcased its line of footwear and accessories in a fashion show-like setting replete with the latest gadgets and live ramp models showing them off.

Within the four walls of Coach Rio’s store lies an impressive inventory of running shoes with even newer models expected to come in very soon. His stock includes some of the newer models from Saucony, Brooks and Nike. The store also carries the latest on GPS watches, apparels like jog bras, tops and shorts, compression gear, socks and even cellfone/mp3 cases.

With a whole gamut of independent and chain sports retailers vying for the loyalty of the running community, Riovana has to do a better job than its competitors to keep its sales receipts up. To that end, the store offers special services like running clinics and coaching from its team of coaches, handles registration for numerous races and most importantly, it has set up a sports recovery clinic with several sports doctors on hand or by appointment to treat runners help manage their injuries or get a sports massage by their able therapists.

Here are some pictures and a press release from the event:

PRESS RELEASE:

A heightened experience welcomed the members of the media and other guests during the grand launch of Riovana held last February  17, 2012. Owned by the running industry’s frontliner Coach Rio De La Cruz, the event demarcated the formal unveiling of this one-stop-shop that provides a different high to runners and enthusiasts alike by enlightening them about the right tools, techniques and other know-hows regarding running so they can transcend from being ordinary to extraordinary runners.

Guests were given a tour of Riovana to introduce them to the various areas within: Sole Running, where the perfect pair of shoes for an individual depending on his fitness level: gold-for speed work, interval trainings and the race day, silver – for intermediate training and bronze for beginners, are determined via the Gait Analysis – the shoes; Sole Searching, the lounge area where members can interact with other runners as they build lasting friendships over races and Sole Healing, a revolutionary recovery center that focuses on pre and post running treatments.

Apart from the tour, there were also raffle draws which paved way for lucky guests to win exclusive items from Riovana. Another highlight of the evening was the fashion show which featured the 2012 collection of some of the brands which Riovana carries.

Riovana Recovery Center: Sole Healing

Many runners will feel some soreness, sluggishness, chronic muscle aches and pain at any time during their training. If you just finished a marathon like i recently did during the QCIM3 last week, there’s this thing called post-marathon depression… a feeling of emptiness wherein boredom or low moods set in.

I’ve often experienced these days following the euphoria of finishing one although i’ve learned to deal with it by enjoying other activities, running easy with friends for just plain fun and the occasional visits to massage therapists.  This last remedy really helps!

Recently, i was invited by Sidney Lanuza of Riovana and top blogger Vimz Mendoza (kulitrunner) to the soft launching of Coach Rio Dela Cruz’ Recovery/Wellness Center called SOLE HEALING which is located at the 2nd floor of the Riovana Running Store at their Bonifacio Global Center Branch. With several sports doctors, orthopedic surgeons and therapists on call, it offers various types of treatments to help manage sports injuries, ease sore muscles, relax the runners and give them a most memorable post-running experience.

A Nurse and a PT in one of the rooms

The recovery center was specifically built for runners and other athletes as a combination spa, wellness center, physical therapy clinic in the convenience of a home-like ambiance. It concentrates on both the mind and body. There are different services offered that can revitalize and relax, helping you deal with the day to day stresses of life. As well as relaxing the body and mind, the center uses state of the art machines that has many physical and physiological health benefits, of which some can be felt immediately.

Among the services offered include:

  • Sports Doctors – Orthopedic Surgeons and Physiotherapists
  • Conditioning Specialists
  • Running Experts
  • Nurses and Physical Therapists
  • Cryo-Treatment
  • Laser and Ultrasound Therapy
  • Sports Massage
  • Hydration Therapy/Oxygen Supplementation
  • Acupuncture
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
  • Kinesio-taping

The rooms were very well-equipped, the surroundings were homey and the staff were very accommodating. Some Doctors were present during the center’s presentation and we were briefed on what the recovery center hopes to provide for all its clients. Full operation of the clinic will start at the latter past of this month (December).

Here are some pictures taken during the soft launch:

Riovana: The SOUL of Running

I was suppose to blog the upcoming Run BGC 2011 for November 27 but thought about writing something on Coach Rio’s newest venture first, his new running store cum cafe cum shower room, cum everything else, the RIOVANA. There will be a soft opening this afternoon, the affair will be low-key and will showcase many running products not readily available at other running stores.

The first of many shops Coach Rio plans to open is located along 28th Street, corner 9th (near Honda) at BGC, site where many races start their runs and based on the interiors which was being hastily spruced up last night, it looks spacious and swanky that will surely attract runners when it comes to life.

Riovana will surely be the next gathering of runners. Consider that every Thursday evening at 6:00pm anywhere from 50 to 60 runners gather at A Running Circle (ARC) along Roxas Blvd. and not just to buy shoes and gear. ARC is the starting point for a weekly 5 to 15k runs so think about the BHS running crowd with the hundreds of runners training around the BGC at any given day (or night). It will be the ideal meet-up of running groups, an information or registration center for races and when buying your shoes, you get the knowledge of experts who’ll give advice to your every need as a runner.

I heard that they’ll provide locker rooms and shower facilities for runners who want to freshen-up after a run, for a fee, of course. It will also be a venue for running clinics and race launches and those who want to take a quick bite, they’ll serve some coffee, drinks and other delectable snacks.

The store’s tagline reads, “The Sole of Running”. But there’s more than putting pun out of a tagline. Coach Rio has been serving the needs of runners through the mostly excellent races he organizes, to running clinics that he conducts and to the products that he endorses which says a lot about his credibility and the trust people put into him. A top flight runner himself, he’s always in the offensive line of running success and serves in just about any imaginable capacity to keep the local running community going strong.

The guy with the afro hair is the core of the present running community. He is the SOUL of running. Peace, brother!

It's raining at Riovana!
