Siargao International Marathon: July 23, 2017

Yes, this paradise island is part of Mindanao which is now under martial law as declared by President Duterte since a week ago, where Philippine military troops are still clashing with militants under the terrorist group Maute in Marawi.

However, Siargao Island is far removed from the present going-ons in Marawi and is known to be a peaceful and insurgency-free place with many tourists, both local and foreign trying to strut their wares in what the island is known for, surfing! Aside from hosting several international and local events in surfing, Siargao will also host an international marathon to be held on July 23, 2017.

The Siargao International Marathon (Run For The Mangroves) 2017 is a fundraising campaign organized by the Municipality of Del Carmen together with Runrio Events, Inc. and Open Space Media Inc. for the benefit of their mangrove rehabilitation in Del Carmen. This is the 1st Siargao International Marathon following the success of the first Siargao It Up! Marathon last year.

I’m very optimistic that this turbulence happening in Mindanao will end very soon and martial law will be lifted way before the event proper. Here’s to peace in Mindanao!

Baby Tibay’s Parents are just simple ordinary people who make enough just to raise a family and raising this kind of amount is a great burden for them. But, as any loving Parent would do, they will not give up and will fight and find ways to raise this kind of amount in order for their child to go on living and grow up to see the beauty what our God has given to us in this world.

So, on April 9, 2017, tell your family members, friends and neighbors to merge on this one meaningful event to help save a life of an angel called “Baby Tibay”. Let us all exploit this rare opportunity that was given to us to give life to a child.

Run For Jared: February 25, 2017 at BGC

Image may contain: 1 person, text

Three days ago, our dear friend, runner and blogger Jared Baliguat (Running Suplado, Supladong Irish Runner) suffered a Nervous Breakdown while at work and was rushed to Medical City Hospital in Pasig, where he is currently confined. He has been having seizures and is suffering from memory loss with fits of abnormal behavior. He has difficulty remembering things, recognizing people whom he knows well and worse, couldn’t even remember his own name.

As such, Jared’s prolonged stay in the hospital is necessary as he is still under observation as more tests will have to be conducted. He is currently living alone in Manila, a breadwinner to his Mom and sibling who are both residing in Antique. Jared’s office mates are now raising funds in order to bring his mother and sibling here in Manila.

In the meantime, runner-blogger friends are taking turns in caring for him at the Medical City. Jared has been only working for 5 months in his current job and still has no medical benefits. His friends from the running and blogging community are already making arrangements to raise funds and help in their own ways to help Jared ease his ordeal.

The Community Run For Jared is being held this coming Saturday, February 25, 2017 to help defray his ballooning medical expenses at the Medical City Hospital. All proceeds and registration fees will go directly to Jared and his family.

If you personally know Jared and would like to help, a bank account has been established, care of Mr. Rikki Suarez. You can make your cash donations to:

BPI Savings Bank Account

Name: Lino N. Suarez Account No.: 0069-5169-04

Thank you very much and please do not forget to say a prayer for Jared.

Soleus Launches Signature Series Watch Collection in the Philippines

Running has always been a relief and a sanctuary—something that makes me feel good, both physically and mentally. For me it’s not so much about the health benefits. Those are great, but I believe that the best thing about running is the joy it brings to life.” –Kara Goucher

I have always followed Kara Goucher’s’s amazing feats as she is one of the most accomplished American female distance runner for the past 15 years. The two-time Olympian is mostly described as tough because of her awesome achievements, her ability to come back after a series of injuries during her peak years. Lately, Goucher is continuing her extreme gift of marathon running into a balance of training, rest, healthy eating and more training… inspiring others to do the same.

Her major accomplishments:

Marathon PR: 2:24:52 (Boston, 2011)

Best trials qualifier: 2:30:24 (Los Angeles, 2016)

Most recent marathon: 4th, 2:30:24, 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials

Residence: Boulder, Colorado

Age : 38

Previous Olympic trials results: third, 2012 marathon; second, 2008 10,000 meters; first, 2008 5,000 meters

Celebrating the pursuit of the Rio Olympics 2016, Kara in collaboration with other Soleus Elites, Alysia Montano, and Nick Symmonds, has debuted a special edition collection designed Soleus watches.

While the Soleus GPS One is a minimalist watch, “it has everything you need and nothing you dont”, as its catchphrase suggests. It’s a simple watch with not much frills but delivers what it does best, accurately track your speed and distance. And what better way to maximize it’s potential than to collaborate with elite sponsored American athletes on a signature series collection that is designed by elite runners for world-class and newbie runners.

The Soleus Signature Kara Goucher GPS One has a stunning red, white and blue interface with Kara’s signature at the back that represents the American flag. The Soleus GPS One has all the technology many runners need..a reliable GPS provides you via a simple user-interface with accurate pace and distance information. Moreover, this watch is water resistant, and comes with a rechargeable battery.

Though it doesn’t upload data, you still can keep an old-fashioned work-out diary which Kara does. Aside from pace, distance and speed, it also measures calories burned, stores lap data and has a 100-hour chronograph capabilities.

After several years of constant use with various Soleus GPS watch models, the Sara Goucher GPS One Signature series packs the usual important features of a GPS watch; an accurate recording of average pace and run distance, long battery life and now a great color design which is plenty suitable for all-day wear. Great running watch at a very low price of P4,950.00 available at all L-Time Studio Stores and TIMEGEAR Boutiques!

About World Vision Child Sponsorship

The best way to help a child is to help his community become a better place to grow up in. For a donation of P600 a month, you will help provide children and his community with access to: education, health care, nutritious food, clean water, livelihood opportunities and more.

Child sponsorship ensures that the community will be able to provide children with the basics they need to help them grow up in a healthy environment and have a chance for a better, more sustainable future.

How Child Sponsorship Works

Child sponsorship is an exciting journey of transformation – for the child you’re helping and for you especially if you use all the tools available to help you bond with your sponsored child.

It works by linking a poor child to an individual/ group who is committed to give a regular gift of P600 a month per child or P7,200 a year. Your monthly pledge is pooled with those of other child sponsors in the Philippines and overseas. Pooling together resources/ donations enables World Vision to maximize the productivity of every peso.

When you decide to sponsor a child, you’ll meet the child that you’ll be sponsoring by receiving a welcome kit that includes your sponsored child’s photo and profile, along with ways to connect and be updated with your new sponsored child.

Sponsorship fosters sustainability. World Vision plans and works alongside community members to help build healthy communities for children.
