Takbo.ph Runfest 2013: From Roots to Routes

How time flies! Pegged as the premier running community group that started all the on-line forums on running, race schedules, Sunday long run get-togethers that cultivated a tight-knit social running group, Takbo.ph is now celebrating its 5th anniversary this year and it is staging the Takbo.ph Runfest 2013 this coming July 14, 2013.

Takbo.ph was the first one-stop website for runners in the country and it was the melting pot for those who shared the same interest in this sport. It grew ten-fold in members and has developed such tight friendships which has lasted up to the present. Among it’s many races organized in the past, the Runfest seems to be their flagship run, and except for 2012, it is held every year.

For this year’s race, included will be a half-marathon! Registration for Runfest is still on-going. Here are the details:

World Vision Run 2013

Last week,  i attended  the launching of the 2nd World Vision Fun Run and listened to one particular runner-friend who shared his child-hood story, on how in the midst of financial difficulties growing up was able to graduate from school through the help of the World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Program.

Many lives of out-of-school children and school drop-outs have been transformed by being able to graduate and lead good lives and in return, they themselves are now able sponsors of these needy children.

In this 2nd World Vision Run, to be held on June 23, 2013 at the Bonifacio Global City, World Vision invites runners to share the same kind of love that can change lives—lives of children in need. With a very small act of kindness these children will be able to look ahead to better lives with better opportunities, all because you willingly opened your heart and share love!

This Run  is a way for you to make a real and lasting difference for ONE precious boy or girl in need. Proceeds from registration fees shall be pooled together with other World Vision resources so children, families and communities may be provided with the following:

  • Skills training
  • Improved Nutrition
  • Livelihood assistance
  • Health care

PRESS RELEASE:

Last year’s World Vision run brought people from all walks of life to run in the hope for children’s fullness of life.

A runner shares her experience, “Ran the 5k this morning in World Vision Philippines Run at BGC… it was a fun-filled and inspiring event… as one of the child sponsors, I’m more inspired to continue this advocacy after hearing success stories from former scholars… and hopefully, more people will share our vision and help send the underprivileged Filipino kids to school.”

This year, we are inviting everyone again to run and show your care for the children to help fulfill their dreams for better lives. World Vision Run 2013 is for the benefit of more than 8,000 children still waiting for sponsorship through World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Program.

Besides registering for the run, event sponsors and media partners can team up with World Vision for added participation. Groups and teams interested for concessionaires can also contact the World Vision Run team

So lace up this June, and see you at the finish line! Let’s run because we care.

The Impact:

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice. Globally, World Vision assists over 2.7 children in over 100 countries.

Here in the Philippines, World Vision is reaching out to more than 80,000 children nationwide (along with their families and communities) through community development programs that will help uplift their economic situation and over-all child well-being of the children being sponsored.

For this year, we have about 8,000 children who are still waiting to be sponsored. World Vision’s local fundraising are pooling together resources from various sponsors/ donors to help ensure that these children will be able to have access to education, health care, values formation and livelihood assistance for their parents.

Fundraising events, such as the World Vision Run, helps support these programs for the children, their families and communities. You don’t have to be an athlete, a running enthusiast or even a health buff to make a difference through this event. Even first time runners, young and young at hearts, are all welcome to join!

By joining the World Vision Run 2013, running more kilometers , sharing the cause and experience with your family and friends, or even considering to sponsor a child will definitely contribute in helping more children have brighter futures ahead.

Let’s all run because we care. See you all on June 23!

About World Vision Child Sponsorship

The best way to help a child is to help his community become a better place to grow up in. For a donation of P600 a month, you will help provide children and his community with access to: education, health care, nutritious food, clean water, livelihood opportunities and more.

Child sponsorship ensures that the community will be able to provide children with the basics they need to help them grow up in a healthy environment and have a chance for a better, more sustainable future.

How Child Sponsorship Works

Child sponsorship is an exciting journey of transformation – for the child you’re helping and for you – especially if you use all the tools available to help you bond with your sponsored child.

It works by linking a poor child to an individual/ group who is committed to give a regular gift of P600 a month per child or P7,200 a year. Your monthly pledge is pooled with those of other child sponsors in the Philippines and overseas. Pooling together resources/ donations enables World Vision to maximize the productivity of every peso.

When you decide to sponsor a child, you’ll meet the child that you’ll be sponsoring by receiving a welcome kit that includes your sponsored child’s photo and profile, along with ways to connect and be updated with your new sponsored child.

Sponsorship fosters sustainability. World Vision plans and works alongside community members to help build healthy communities for children.

All In for the Biggest Race Across Southeast Asia

adidas Philippines Opens Registration for the Annual adidas King of the Road 2013

Runners, it’s time for you to gear up because adidas is now opening the registration for this year’s adidas King of the Road (KOTR), happening this July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The 2013 edition of the adidas KOTR will allow runners to choose between the 16.8K and 10k race categories. The 16.8K-distance will have two sub-categories—Closed, which will be exclusive for Filipinos, and Open category for all nationalities. Male and female runners who will top the race from the Closed category will be crowned as the Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road and will represent the country in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia later this year.

On the other hand, the 10K-distance will have an added feature this year, the Student’s Relay category. The Students’ Relay category, created to encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, will be open exclusively to college and university students 25 years old and below. One male and one female student need to partner up and form a relay team, with each running a 5km leg. The winning pair will win cash prizes individually as well as for their respective schools.

The regular 10K race will still be held, which is open to all runners interested to join this distance. Prizes also await runners who will top the said categories.

“The brand’s battle cry is All In, as adidas continues to support and encourage people to be the best they can be in whatever interests they have —be it sports, fashion, or music ” says Jason Gervasio, adidas Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager. “In the case of KOTR, adidas is showcasing its commitment to sports by bringing together and empowering runners from all over the Philippines and Southeast Asia, giving them a chance to engage in their passion for running.”

Southeast Asia Roads Lead to Malaysia

adidas is not only encouraging runners to compete within their countries. As part of its drive to provide the best experiences for its consumers, KOTR will once again be held in different legs across the SEA countries.

To date, the first adidas KOTR SEA Regional Championship held in October 2011 culminated in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The success of this multi-country race inspired the brand to make the event a regional annual tradition. Hence, the KOTR SEA Championship Year 2 was organized and held at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore in 2012.

This year, participants of the KOTR SEA Championship will get a chance to run through the streets of Malaysia. The final race will be held in October, where winners from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will be joined by the KOTR SEA Championship Closed Category participants from the host country itself. Only one winner each from the Male and Female divisions will be crowned as the adidas Southeast Asia King and Queen of the Road.

Energizer Night Race 2013

The “Energizer LED Headlamps Run”, as i would like to call this race, is again being staged in Manila on May 4, 2013 to brighten the homes of our less fortunate countrymen who have no access to electricity. This will be the second Energizer Night Race to be held in Manila and will feature a 5 and 10-kilometer distance race .

Energizer Philippines, together with One Million Lights, a global nonprofit organization, have joined forces to improve the daily lives of children and adults by providing clean and healthy solar lighting pledges to provide clean, safe, affordable solar lighting to rural communities around the world, including the Phulippines through international distribution programs.

In the Philippines, the donations are made in the form of solar-powered LED lanterns and bulbs. These will enable children to study at night and adults to extend their workday, all while helping to improve household health and safety.

(L-R) Energizer Philippines Marketing Manager Cara Tecson , Asian Managing Director Todd Montgomerie and Brand Manager Joan Frances Mendoza at the Press Con with samples of the Solar Energy lamps to be donated to power-less barrios in the Philippines

To spice up the run, organizers have also given runners the liberty of showing off their creativity by designing their singlets using neon-fabric paint pens. Runners with the Best Singlet Design and Best Message will get to take home prizes from Energizer.

Participants can also post their photos after the race on Energizer’s Facebook page and get a chance to win Best Before and After Photos, Best Action shot, and Best Light Art Photo.
